ALFIE

Alfie is a 12 year old 15.2hh Bay Gelding and one of the most popular horses Earnsdale Farm has ever owned.

Purchased as rising 4 years old, he arrived in rather poor condition, having been transported by ferry from Ireland and neglected for the first years of his life. He had to be clipped out to get rid of the lice and fed a special diet for a few months to build up his strength and condition but from then onwards he never looked back.

Alfie is a loveable character and a great favourite amongst beginners and disabled riders. He will stand patiently waiting for his rider to mount, either from the mounting block, a leg-up or from the ground and then walks slowly around the arena at a steady pace unless his rider uses a strong leg to take him more forward. He is invaluable for riders who have lost their confidence either because of an unsuitable horse or because of an accident at some point in their lives which often makes it very difficult for them to take up riding again later on. No-one is ever afraid of riding Alfie and they always feel perfectly safe on him.

Alfie is quite happy with an adult or a younger rider and has a good jump when it is required. As long as speed is not required, Alfie is the ideal riding school horse, being supple and obedient, working in a good outline. He does a good dressage test, or jumping class but Handy Pony is his favourite as nothing bothers him at all.
