Earnsdale Farm Riding School, in Darwen, Lancashire, offers an extensive training programme for potential Instructors at all levels in addition to riding lessons for members of the public.

Important Notice for Equine Enthusiasts

Would you like to train for NVQ's in Horse Care? BHS Stages or Teaching Examinations, or simply improve your knowledge of riding and care skills?

In conjunction with The Manchester College, we can offer excellent training at Earnsdale Farm Riding School, for British Horse Society NVQ Horse Care and Management Levels 1-2-3 then automatic entry into British Horse Society Stage II and III together with BHS PTT for those who wish to follow this discipline for teaching. All training is carried out at Earnsdale Farm.

These courses are full time and are for two years with an extension where necessary. Candidates must be 16 years or over for Full Time and under 19 years on 1st September of the current year.  If you are leaving school this summer or if you are considering a career change, work with horses, or just improve your riding and care skills but never had the opportunity to train in your area, now is your chance. All training for 16 - 18 year olds is fully funded. Students are eligible to claim EMA weekly payments with a £100 bonus at Christmas and on achievement.

Mature students are also eligible for training, but for those people over the age of 18 years, a fee may be payable in three instalments.

FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE ALREADY ACHIEVED BHS STAGE II OR THE EQUIVALENT, WHY NOT JOIN US FOR YOUR FINAL YEAR FOR STAGE III AND PTT TEACHING.

It has been a long held opinon, recently brought to the attention of the equestrian public in Horse & Hounds, that current trends for college trained equestrian students have not produced the workforce required within the industry. For pupils leaving school with their sights set on working with horses in Riding Schools, Dressage, Hunt, Livery, Producer, Event or other Yards, a broader based knowledge and experience of a working environment is essential. Often at this stage, pupils do not know which section of equestrianism they wish to pursue. At Earnsdale Farm we have an excellent record of 100% pass rate over five years
amongst students carrying through their programme to achievement.

At Earnsdale Farm Riding School and B.H.S.Approved Training Yard, we can offer courses which will give students a good grounding in everyday working practises together with the training necessary to succeed. Our horses and ponies are well schooled and entirely suitable for a high level of training in all aspects of equestrianism (except racing - which is a different concept).

Training covers four days, with Tuesdays being mainly working practises and ride and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays covering mostly riding lessons, lectures and supervised practical tasks training. We have Janine, BHSII (SM) Yard Manager, a Level 3 Assessor who is also a college trained lecturer with a B.A. (Hons) in Education. Jenny Crook, Head Girl, (BHSAI) is a Level 2 Assessor.

Our fully equipped Lecture Room is light and airy and warm in winter. IT skills are also encouraged and tuition provided to enable you to contact the Manchester College Campus.

The Manchester College, text book for the Course and your own personal file from the BHS will be provided. Student cards available.
